AXA Sustainable Driving

Welcome to AXA’s sustainable driving portal which is provided by its online driver training partners, E-Training World.

Sustainable driving isn’t just about fuel consumption in your petrol or diesel vehicle, or battery range in your electric vehicle.

By  using techniques to drive safely, you will also reduce the need for replacing consumables such as tyres, brake pads etc. And if you avoid collisions you will reduce the requirement for vehicle and road furniture repairs and paint; all of which means you are doing everything you can to minimise your carbon footprint.

Of course, fuel consumption has a lot to do with the vehicle you are driving, but whatever vehicle you drive there are things you can do to save fuel, save money, and cut pollution.

If you drive in an eco-friendly manner, you would save approximately 10% on your fuel bills, plus enjoy reduced maintenance costs. For Electric Vehicles (EV), efficient driving also means you can drive further on each charge.

Please watch the short videos below. These are very quick to watch but provide valuable insights into how to drive in an eco-friendly and safe manner.

Acceleration Sense

In this video we look at the importance of ‘Acceleration Sense’. This is the technique to manage your speed to avoid having to stop unnecessarily.

It also advises on avoiding harsh braking and constant quick acceleration.

Distracted driving

There are many distractions when driving. Using a mobile phone, even when hands-free, is a key one, however you can be distracted by eating/drinking at the wheel, looking to the side (e.g. if you see a nice sports car parked up) and you can also let your mind drift by thinking of items other than driving.

Observation and speed

In this video we look at how to use effective observation techniques to predict what the traffic ahead is going to do in order to manage your speed and keep your vehicle moving improving fuel economy and less wear on parts.

Stopping distances

Collisions often happen simply because a driver didn’t allow themselves enough space or time to stop. is it really that important to go slightly quicker, or drive too close to the vehicle in front? How much time are you really saving on your journey? By leaving enough room to stop you will go a long way to remain safe and incident-free.

Avoiding rear end collisions

Avoiding rear end collisions is not just about you making sure you do not hit the vehicle in front. You can also drive in a manner that minimises the chances of someone driving into the back of you.

Safe speed

The posted speed limit is a maximum, not a target.

It is important that you choose an appropriate speed, within the law, based on the road conditions, the weather and an overall assessment of how quickly you could stop if there was a problem.
